Aaaaand we’re back with more book recommendations!
Today will be Different by Maria Semple
I gave this bad boy a 5/5. If you’ve ever read Where’d You Go Bernadette, you’ll have heard of it’s author, Maria Semple. I think she may be becoming one of my favorites of all time. Her writing is quirky and candid, while delving into familial relationships, mental health, and navigating life in general. Today Will be Different is a story about Eleanor Flood and her one day adventure where she goes on a mini-adventure to find out why in the world her husband secretly took a week off of work and also comes to terms with her relationship with her sister. This is definitely a dive into the crazy pool, but if you enjoy reading about quirky characters— this one’s for you. Also, great beach read.
This Savage Song by Victoria Schwab
Victoria Schwab is a really very accomplished YA fantasy novelist so when I saw she had a new lil duology come out, I picked them up. These two books were fast-paced, fun, and a bit dark. This follows two main characters— August Flynn and Kate Harker. Both are heirs to parts of a city that is overrun with monsters. When their lives intertwine, chaos follows. Don’t want to divulge too much on this urban fantasy, but if you’re looking for something to get sucked into— this is your best bet! 4/5 stars!
All the Birds in the Sky by Charlie Jane Anders
I am currently reading All the Birds in the Sky and I think this one might be a solid 3/5 stars, although who knows what will happen since I’m only halfway through the book. One scientist and one witch become friends in childhood and cross paths again later in life in San Fransisco. But they don’t know yet that something is pushing them together to either save the world, or destroy it. I’m not a huge fan of how it’s been written, but I clearly like it enough to keep going. I read the first 200 pages rather quickly, and then just haven’t picked it back up for a few days.
What are you reading lately? Anything I should pick up? I’ve been in a reading mood lately and am about to start In a Dark, Dark Wood after I finish All the Birds in the Sky!
