I’m not asking for a friend, I’m asking for me. For those of you who are new here— I just moved to California! Literally two days ago so everything is still very fresh and new. I’m currently sat at my new desk with my boyfriend’s old chair and eating lunch. As with all moves, this one wasn’t perfect. I had a few breakdowns and my car isn’t even on the way yet (sigh), but I’m trying to not let that bother me too much. After all Los Angeles is more walkable than Houston, at least the area I’m in is.
But my main question is how do you start to feel settled in a new place? It takes a while, doesn’t it? My boyfriend has been here three months already so we have a couch and a bed and the necessities (still no bath mats or rugs in general to speak of), and I’ve hung up some clothes in the closet. I’m just wanting to rush in to decorating and buying furniture, but my bank account is like nah girl you can wait. I’ve told myself I can’t buy anything big aside from a dresser and a rug for the foreseeable future but daaang my nesting instincts are taking over.
What makes you feel most at home?
What’s been helping me is taking long showers and a bath with some Jo Malone Bath Oil. Some serious alone time because not only have I moved to a new city and a new apartment, I also moved in with the boyfriend. Which means I’m going to be needing some me time. I’ve also been organizing little parts of the apartment that I can get my hands on. I pulled out a bunch of old things from the side table on my side of the bed and started putting my things in there. It feels good to be organized even if it’s in small batches.
I’ve also been vacuuming like a mad woman because now there’s also a dog in my life (who I love) that sheds like craaazy! We need a roomba! Help!
Other than settling in, LA is pretty beautiful and I’m excited for this new adventure! Life certainly is a surprise, that’s for sure. Send me suggestions and if you’re from LA— where do we eat and where do I go? Recommendations puhlease!
