Trying on mom jeans for the first time | moddie blog

Trying out mom jeans for the first time

In the past year or so of my life (at the old age of 27), I’ve become a very adventurous jeans-wearer. It started last year with cropped, flare jeans then I went back to low-waisted jeans after swearing off them years ago, and NOW I am wearing mom jeans. Never thought I’d see the day where my hips would fit into mom jeans & I’d actually be into it. Alas, here we are. Not a mom, yet rockin’ the look.

I saw Tanya Burr, one of the cutest UK ladies around, wearing mom jeans & i thought dang, those look good. So I finally decided to stop by Topshop this week and try some on for size. Obvs I liked em’ cause they’re at home with me now. Also top tip — try on everything you can at TopShop and you’ll be surprised at how much fits! I tried on stuff I generally would never wear and was pleasantly surprised. That being said, I was frugal with my choices, but if I had a party go to (or tons of money to spend) I may have gone home with other things!

These ones areeee from Topshop and they’re surprisingly comfortable and soft. They hug the butt nicely, but also I don’t really have one & they accentuate that a bit. Oh well. I’m not in this for people to stare at what could’ve been. Am I right? I just want to buy what I like and right now i like the high-waist 80s cowboy/mom look. For some reason (prob the light wash) these remind me of my grandpa who was a true texas cowboy to the core.

What jeans are you into these days? Keep me fresh & young and tell me in the comments below. Seriously, I need help. Also check me out on instagram — I’m now using #liketoknowit so you can shop my photos!

summer hat + jumpsuit | moddie blog

Tis’ the season for a summer hat + jumpsuit

GUYS, I bought a vintage, summer hat the other weekend and ever since I’ve been dreaming about how to wear it. How many outfits can I get away with wearing it with? Denim? Linen? Silk? Anything seems possible with a straw hat (now that I mentioned silk – that sounds AMAZING). I’m so thrilled. It’s throwing me back to ACL days where I borrowed a straw hat from my friend Brenda and let her pin it into my thick hair, trusting her to make me look like a pixie dream girl. Well, straw hat, I’m back.

I got this particular baby from Merch and Market, the coolest little place off Westheimer near Montrose. I took a selfie in it (of course) and then plucked up the courage to ask how much it was, even though I was pretty sure it was $100+! Turned out it was only $35, so I took that as a sign that it belonged on my hat wall. I put it on while wearing my yellow rainboots and BAM — a match made in heaven.

I bought this jumpsuit at Emerson Rose literally yesterday (eeee!) and am SO happy I did. It’s so comfy and light — perfect for Houston summer. Also, not very expensive! I’m going to wear it every day with different shoes (and my summer hat) and not give AF about anything else. That’s my fav kinda fashion. Are we into it? Lemme know. 😉

Happy Friday, all! If you’re interested — check out my Houston weekend guide, and get busy this weekend! Getting out and doing fun things in town is my FAV and I want you all to join! So get in on the action and click HERE, and have all the fun this weekend! Also, get a summer hat. I promise you’ll love it.

Why you should be obsessed with enamel pins (like me).

Let’s be real. Enamel pins are taking over the world. When this trend first came back, I was like “oh they’re cute, but too much trouble to wear and buy them”. Now it is a TOTALLY different story. Give me all the enamel pins. I bought a jean jacket from Topshop & immediately started daydreaming about all the enamel pins I could buy. When is it too much, really? I have also started getting into iron-on patches (but we’ll get to that another time).

I’ve rounded up some of my favorites for you to peruse if you are like me and hopping on the pin bandwagon… guys, it’s never too late to hop on this wagon.

Favorite enamel pins from @moddieblog!

I have to say that I already own the Don’t stress meowt pin because how could I not? It’s purrrfect and already sitting on the collar of my jean jacket. For my birthday one of my friends got me a unicorn pin which is on the other collar (and didn’t make this list because she’s a gem and found me one I’d never seen!). But I am dying to add the T Swift pin to my collection ASAP.

Pins for the succulent lover:

Prickly pear pin

Terrarium pin

Catctus pin (hah for the cat lover, also)

Pins for pretty, but tough girls:

Lashes, though.

Tough Heart

The prettiest girl

And, of course, for the book lover:

Books are cool

There are SO many more that I’ve found since I started collecting pins for this post (like this one, this one, and this one), so it is very hard for me to push publish on this. Ha. But, regardless, get yourself some enamel pins and jump on board. SERIOUSLY. 🙂
